NABET-CWA Stands in Solidarity with Striking Writers Guild of America Members

03 May, 2023

The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians - Communications Workers of America (NABET-CWA) stands in strong solidarity with the nearly 12,000 members of the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) who are out on strike fighting for a fair contract and a better future.

One motto of NABET-CWA is "We Make TV Happen," but we know that a significant volume of television, movie, and digital streaming program content would not, could not, happen without the incredibly talented, hard-working members of the Writers Guild of America. As such, we pledge our unwavering support to the WGA's fight for fair compensation for screenwriters, regardless of how their work is distributed.

We also recognize that this strike has put the WGA on the frontlines of the fight for the dignity of labor in this era. We enthusiastically commend the WGA's efforts to limit the use of AI in writers' rooms, and we hope that a WGA victory will provide a model for jobs and workers to be respected in other industries as this technology is rolled out. Such a win wouldn't only benefit WGA members, it would be a victory for the entire global labor movement.

As the old saying goes, an injury to one is an injury to all, and we at NABET-CWA stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our brave siblings in the WGA and commit to providing the support and solidarity required for them to achieve a strong victory.

Victory to the Writers! Victory to the WGA! When we fight -- we win!
